New York City stalwart Bloomingdale’s is set to expand its presence in the Middle East with a second UAE opening.

The retail destination has been announced as a opening outlet on Abu Dhabi’s upcoming Al Maryah Island, and is due to open in 2018, following a 2010 opening in The Dubai Mall.

The new 230,000 square foot department store will open alongside a the first Macy’s store outside of the US at Al Maryah Central - an extension of The Galleria that will be connected via a bridge.

The extension will include a new hotel and residential towers, according to Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National. The project is reported to be worth US $1.1 billion, and the operator of the new hotel, which will neighbour the Rosewood and Four Seasons, is due to be confirmed next month.
