In a move worthy of The Wolf of Wall Street, Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly arrived in Rio de Janeiro for the World Cup late last week in a rented US $678 million superyacht owned by deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to the Daily Mail, the Hollywood star will be staying aboard the custom-made vessel with 20 of his friends for the duration of the world’s most prestigious football competition, which will run until July 13.
The actor has already been spotted at the kick-off game between Brazil and Croatia, and is expected to continue making the 300-mile journey between Rio and Sao Paulo to attend games.
Measuring 484 feet, Topaz is the fifth largest yacht in the world and boasts a helipad, sizeable yacht deck pool and fitness hall. Facilities also include an on-board conference room and cinema. Built by luxury yacht specialists Lürssen, the boat was launched in May 2012.
This is not the first time that Leonardo DiCaprio has been in the news this year. Back in March, the film star hit headlines for the purchase of his US $5.1 million Palm Springs home and, more recently, when an anonymous bidder paid US $1 million to sit alongside the actor aboard Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic flight.
