From Louis Vuitton’s surreal men’s travel range to Burberry’s crease-free suit, fashion for the modern day executive is constantly changing. Now, to meet the needs of business travellers who have a taste for danger, custom suit tailor Garrison Bespoke has unveiled a creation that would make James Bond blush.
The Bulletproof Suit has been designed to offer peace of mind to men working in the finance, oil or mining industries, who often find themselves travelling to obscure and sometimes dangerous places.
Available in tweed or pinstripe, the tailored three-piece suit uses lightweight carbon nanotube technology to absorb the impact from handgun shots and prevent punctures from knife attacks.
"A lot of men in the finance industry, or mining and oil, have confessed [to us] that when they're in dangerous places, they feel really on edge … it affects their performance at a high-level strategic meeting," David Tran, head of special projects for Garrison Bespoke, told AFP.
"So it had to be completely discreet. If it's bulky, it's signalling to the other party the wrong message – they're scared, they don't trust them."
In order to achieve a normal look, the tailors had to avoid using traditional, bulky bulletproof materials like Kevlar. Instead, they opted for nanotube sheets, which easily slip into the lining of the jacket, providing the necessary protection.
Although The Bulletproof Suit will not go into mass production, it can be bought from Toronto-based Garrison Bespoke as a custom made item for around US $20,000, depending on customisation options.
