The bucolic setting of the Al Wadi Desert has captured the imagination of travellers to the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah for generations. Among its undulating hills of orange-hued sand, sits the lush oasis of The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah, Al Wadi Desert. Long-favoured as a remote sanctuary for those escaping the bustling metropolises of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the hotel has earned a reputation for being a sought-after destination for gastronomes in search of exquisite dining experiences. And this culinary prestige will now be further elevated with the imminent arrival of two Michelin-starred chef, Sycro Bakker.
Embracing his gastronomic roots from the soil of Bali in Indonesia, as well as broader Asian cuisines, Bakker will blend tradition, sustainability and innovation to curate the immersive dining experience rooted in nature, Farmhouse by Sycro. The first dining experience of its kind in the emirate, the restaurant will celebrate farm-to-table produce with a clear emphasis on promoting locally sourced ingredients and working with local producers.
October 24 will see the launch of a new menu, and while the tantalising dishes have yet to be revealed, gourmands can expect plates that are the epitome of simplicity and transparency, alongside a splendid selection of wine. Complementing the experience will be the refined surrounds of Farmhouse by Sycro. With a capacity of up to 80 guests and 120 for private receptions, interiors showcase a beautiful farmhouse-inspired aesthetic and idyllic countryside vibes.
For something a little more exclusive, the Sycro BASÈ Ku offers an elegant private dining area with 14 seats. Here, diners can cast their eyes on culinary art as chefs prepare dishes tableside. Guests will also be able to recreate dishes at home thanks to the Farmers Shop, where the local products can be purchased.
The new concept joins an already thriving food and beverage offering at the property. Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines take centre stage at the stylish Kaheela. With interiors inspired by Arabia, guests can start their day with a vast buffet breakfast before savouring a delicious à la carte lunch. For those searching for a light bite and sanctuary from the desert sun during the middle of the day, take your place in Paddock Café. Situated next to the equestrian centre, you can indulge in homemade pastries, light bites and refreshing juices as you scan the panoramic views of the resort’s resident horses, and the visiting oryxes and gazelles that roam the area.
With the gentler temperatures of autumn replacing the scorching heat of summer, those craving some al fresco dining with incredible views should make a beeline for Kan Zaman. An intimate setting, pull up a chair around the fire pit and enjoy live barbecue grills, and selections of appetisers and salads as you allow the warm glow of the ground lanterns, dotted throughout the landscape, to soothe you.
