Blue skies, sandy beaches, and crystal clear seas, there’s so much to love about the island paradise of Koh Samui – especially the food. With something for everyone, the Koh Samui’s built-up northern and eastern coasts offer a more vibrant slice of island life, whilst the south and west of the island stick to the simple life, showing some of Thailand’s most time-honoured traditions. On the fringe of island's seductive sands, dining is one of Samui’s top indulgences. From delicious Thai dishes to scorching regional curries and plates budding with flavour on seaside tables, you will always be spoiled for choice on the shores of Samui. To point you in the right direction, the team at Samujana is here to share their island favourites from seafood specials to Japanese delicacies and everything in-between.

Chef Keng: Takho Bangpo Seafood
One of my favourite local spots on the island is Takho Bangpo Seafood. It offers a taste of authentic cuisine from Koh Samui that is becoming increasingly rare to find. Although the restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside, and you might even miss it if you aren’t looking closely, it’s an absolute hidden gem. And once the food’s dropped in front of you, there’s no question that you’ll be pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is nestled right on the beach making for a relaxed, sunny, and casual dining experience. The ingredients are always fresh. And even more, they serve seasonal seafood delights that can’t be understated.

What really makes the place special is the combination of crisp ingredients cooked in a simple yet traditional way. This method truly allows the ingredients to shine. I would also recommend any of the seafood. The chefs have perfected these dishes with care. And make sure to try their signature hor d’oeuvres of aromatic shrimp paste barbequed in a coconut shell with fresh veggies! It's one of their best. Here at Samujana, our BBQ experience is one of our dining highlights. One of the most important things for me is to ensure fresh, locally sourced ingredients. This coupled with the breathtaking views of the island truly creates a memorable dining experience for our guests.

Chalsia, sales coordinator: 'Sa Bieng Lae'
They’ve been operating since 1990. They offer traditional fresh seafood and cuisine in local style and a food in a unique taste with a nice atmosphere. The first Sa Bieng Lae restaurant located on the southeast of Koh Samui and close to tourist attractions 'Hin Ta Hin Yai' (Grandmotherand Grandfather stones). Serving amazing fresh seafood with reasonable price. Now they're opened another one at the Wharf by the beach located on Fisherman's village Bo Phut area as well. 'Pineapple fried rice' is recommended menu.

Nicky, personal assistant to the GM: Koa Hom Restaurant
Koa Hom Restaurant offers authentic Thai food and located in Bangrak.
The menu at Koa Hom Restaurant is a solid offering of traditional Thai dishes. Considering the scenic venue and the generous size of the portions, the prices are very reasonable. Noodle dishes like stir fried noodles with chicken are priced at 100 baht and up, while the likes of chicken with cashew nuts and crab with curry powder start at a price point of 190 baht. With excellent service, and delicious food, Koa Hom is a highly recommended place.

Arty, reservations manager: Ageha Sushi
If you looking for Japanese food I would recommend Ageha Sushi restaurant. This restaurant located at Lamai near Tesco Lotus shopping mall. They have a variety of Japanese food ranging from Sashimi to the noodles - the Sashimi is very fresh and reasonably priced. The Kobe beef is also recommended - another one that you shouldn't miss is hot tea and it's complimentary.
