Royal Caribbean International has unveiled a new ship of (dare we say) titanic proportions, and with Leo bagging an Oscar, maybe he should celebrate his success on the maiden voyage of Harmony of the Seas next month in May. We’re sure he’ll feel like “the king of the world” but he should be aware this is more of a family affair.
Guests will be setting sail to Europe’s most beloved destinations in the Western Mediterranean and can enjoy family-friendly offerings like Royal Caribbean’s signature DreamWorks Experience, enhanced entertainment in the award-winning Adventure Ocean youth program, and a new collection of family amenities – all via the comfort of nature balcony state rooms with ocean views.
The 10-storey vessel also boasts “The Ultimate Abyss”, which is the tallest slide at sea, and there’s also a trio of multi-level water slides, monikered “The Perfect Storm”. Hopefully that’s not a weather forecast. Meanwhile, adults can find respite from the kids at Central Park, and explore seven other so-called neighbourhoods before enjoying a cocktail crafted by a robot at the Bionic Bar. And for the first time ever, Broadway and Hollywood hit musical Grease will be performed at sea.
When Harmony of the Seas debuts she will arrive with the familiar cast of DreamWorks Animation characters, such as Po from Kung Fu Panda; Shrek, Fiona and Puss in Boots of Shrek; and from Madagascar, Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, King Julien and the Penguins. Families can book a DreamWorks Character breakfast in the main dining room and ‘meet and greet’ experiences throughout the day. Younger kids can also experience ‘opening weekend’ seats of highly anticipated feature films that will premiere on board the same day as they do at cinemas on land.
"Venture down the rabbit hole and taste an elaborate dreamscape of never-before-seen fare at the Wonderland Imaginative Cuisine"
As you might expect there’s also a huge range of gourmet offerings, with a variety of restaurants with celebrity chef partnerships, including Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver and Michaels Genuine Pub by Michael Schwartz. “From cupcakes to California rolls, finger foods to a five-course gourmet meal, a Royal Caribbean cruise is a journey of culinary discovery,” according to a statement from the company.
