For those with a penchant for the finer things in life, good news arrives in the form of Relais & Châteaux’s latest opening: Al Moudira Hotel in Luxor.

Taking its place amongst the city’s ancient treasures, the self-described ‘part guesthouse, part palace’ is home to 56 rooms and is set against the backdrop of The River Nile, whilst close to the legendary Valley of the Kings, and facing the city of Luxor. Interiors are decorated with furnishings typical of the Middle East, with beds showcasing Egyptian cotton sheets by Malaika and embroidered by local enterprise Threads of Hope, which trains women in weaving and embroidery throughout the region.

On the food front, guests will be able to enjoy Egyptian cuisine that uses ingredients from neighbouring farms, whilst choosing between three restaurants: Ottoman Hall, The Main Court and Khan Al Moudira. For sundowners or after-dark sips, The Eastern Bar will be the city’s hottest watering hole.

When you’re lapping up the iconic views, you can take a stroll through lush gardens of palm and lemon trees, dip into a marble-clad swimming pool or wash away your worries in the hammam.

Those looking to explore the area can do so via the river on a Dahabeya – a traditional Nile sailing boat – that can be rented for three-to-seven-day excursions, exploring the nearby cities of Luxor, Karnak, Medinet Habu and Deir el- Medina.

The launch of Relais & Châteaux’s Luxor property is one of 10 new openings by the brand. In addition to Egypt, other openings will take the brand’s property portfolio to 27, with new additions in Cap Estate (St Lucia), Aix-en-Provence (France), Newfoundland and Quebec (Canada), Rome (Italy), Montemor-o-Novo and Santar (Portugal), Guanacaste (Costa Rica) and Maggie Valley (North Carolina), amongst others.

“I am delighted that these 10 new properties have joined Relais & Châteaux, complementing our existing destination,” says Laurent Gardinier, President of Relais & Châteaux. “Our 27 members in 2023 demonstrate the dynamism of our network as well as our ongoing effort to consolidate the quality and diversity of the guest experience within our properties.”
