Have you ever thought about staying in a traditional mud-brick hotel? In AlUla’s Old Town, guests can now immerse themselves in the city’s ancient architectural heritage with a stay at the Dar Tantora The House Hotel.

Throwing open its doors on Sunday January 21, 2024, the 30-room hotel will offer guests an insight into the region’s agricultural practices, craftsmanship, traditions, and culture through daily cultural activities. Think bread-making, Saudi coffee-making sessions, and weekly and monthly local traditions, such as ancient games and artisanal craft-making led by local artisans and craftspeople. You can even enjoy curated tour experiences around AlUla by local guides known as Rawis.

Located just 35km from AlUla International Airport, the hotel’s interiors are designed by Madrasat Addeera, AlUla’s pioneering school dedicated to fostering artisanal skills and craft programs of the region. Expect artworks, furniture and decorative elements that pay homage to AlUla’s culture and history. Even the hotel’s name is inspired by its surroundings, with the ‘tantora’ historically serving as the timekeeper for the local community.

But it’s not all about cultural and ancient practices… You can also enjoy all the modern luxuries of a hotel stay – soak up the sun at the infinity pool that serves up oasis views, savour a wellness treatment using local ingredients at the spa before tucking into local dishes curated by Michelin-starred chef Jaume Puigdengolas.

“Dar Tantora The House Hotel is more than just a place to stay; it’s an invitation to experience AlUla’s vibrant history and embrace its timeless culture and heritage,” says Marloes Knippenberg, CEO of Kerten Hospitality. “Our passionate team has dedicated themselves to creating an experience that captures the essence of this unique community. This project is a pivotal part of our global expansion, reflecting Kerten Hospitality’s commitment to bringing unique, culturally-rich experiences to diverse destinations around the world.”
