Get your Indiana Jones’ hat on as AlUla’s Ancient Kingdoms Festival is ready to take you on an adventure to the olden days.
Kicking off on November 16, the festival will feature shows, performances, tours and programmes, aimed at taking you back to the glory of the ancient region that was once ruled by the Roman Empire.
Now into its second year, culture vultures and explorers can discover the ancient cities of the Incense Road – Dadan and Hegra – via tours, both in real-life and augmented reality (AR). In the city of Hegra, which is celebrating its 15-year anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, visitors will be transported back in time to 312BC to the vibrant city of Nabatean thanks to AR glasses, as well as having the opportunity to enjoy wildlife and nature tours of the natural heritage of the area.

Moving to the stone city of Dadan, stone tombs cut into red-rock cliff faces lie in wait. And what’s more, those who travel to Dadan for this year’s festival will be able to see the unveiling of a new site in the area: an ancient ostrich hunting ground of the people of Dadan.

But if tomb raiding and wildlife watching aren’t really your thing, AlUla, Khaybar and Tayma offer oases that will be the scenes of historical inspired shows, family events and imaginative dining.
The AlUla Ancient Kingdoms Festival runs until December 2.
