Vietnamese carrier VietJet has been fined US$1000 after allowing a bikini show on board one of its jets.
A group of five bikini-wearing models transformed the aisle of the plane into a catwalk and performed a ‘Hawaiian dance show’ to promote the inauguration of the airline’s new route to Nha Tran from Ho chi Minh.
Passengers watched as the models strutted up and down just after the plane had reached cruising altitude. The models were contestants of "Miss Ngoi Sao," a beauty pageant organised by a local newspaper. After the show, the girls handed out teddy bears to every passenger.
The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) was alerted to the performance after clips of the dance went out over the internet. After studying the clips the CAAV deemed this a breach of air safety regulations as the show hadn't been autorised and fined the airline 20 million Vietnamese dong, or about US$1,000.
VietJet has a strong affiliation with beauty pageants after sponsoring Miss Vietnam 2012.
