As Lamborghini’s stylish entry model, and with close to 15,000 sold to date, the Lamborghini Gallardo has long been the darling of the supercar industry. From garishly designed police cars to blockbuster films, the car has embodied performance driving in every walk of life.
Just last month, Lamborghini ceased production of this iconic supercar and has replaced it, instead, with the most hotly anticipated performance vehicle of the year: the Lamborghini Huracán LP610-4.
Like the Gallardo, the Huracán derives its name from the world of bullfighting, named after a famous breed known for its outstanding courage, unrelenting character and strong sense of attack. To match its aggressive name, the Huracán boasts a 5.2-litre V10 engine, producing 610 horsepower with the ability to hit 100kph from a standstill in just 3.2 seconds.
To enhance performance, the supercar’s chassis is made from a lightweight mix of carbon fibre and aluminium, weighing in at just over 3000 pounds. Lamborghini has also included an array of electronic aids, all accessible via the steering wheel, which can shift the car from “sport” to “corsa” mode at the touch of a button.
Externally, the Huracán seamlessly blends the best elements of Lamborghini’s higher spec Aventador and Sesto Elemento. The beautifully streamlined – yet satisfyingly aggressive – design progresses from an angry-looking front end to an entirely new, sharp rear, complete with four wide exhausts and redesigned taillights.
Although the supercar won’t be launched publically until the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, those with the buying power can see the vehicle in action at one of over 130 private preview events, spanning 60 cities across the world.
