A stretch of ocean in the Arabian Gulf, near Al Juriad Island and Berri Oil Field, will be the home of an oil rig-inspired mega entertainment project.

Simply known as The Rig (which is being developed by the Oil Park Development Company), the theme and resort park will be the world’s first adventure tourism destination and will offer visitors a sea sports and leisure experience while celebrating the legacy of Saudi Arabia’s rich oil and gas heritage.

While no confirmed date has been set for the opening of the destination that is in line with Kingdom’s Vision 2030, it is expected that The Rig will attract more 900,000 guests per annum by 2032.

Replicating the design of offshore oil platforms, the project will be home to three hotels totalling 800 rooms alongside 11 restaurants, an extreme sports & adventure park, and a marina. Located 40 km from the nearest coastline, guests will be transported to the destination via helicopter or boat.

Aquaphiles will be able to dip their feet into several water activities at the diving centre and splash park. But if you prefer terra firma, entertainment will come in the form of an amusement park, E-sports centre, an immersive theatre, as well as a multi-purpose arena for sports.
