Where were you before coming to Capella Marigot Bay?
Before my appointment as general manager at The Capella Marigot Bay Resort and Marina Saint Lucia, I worked for the Capella Hotel Group in Ireland, Italy and the Caribbean. Prior to this, I worked for Wolfgang Puck and The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company in the United States.
What do you love most about Saint Lucia?
The island is full of warm, genuine people and the surroundings are beautiful; it’s a great place to wake up every morning.
Where is your favourite place to unwind on the island?
Spending a day on a yacht with a few beers while exploring the Caribbean islands is the perfect way to unwind. I am also looking forward to this summer, when we open our very own rum cave and cigar bar. Sipping on Saint Lucian rum with a cigar in hand while overlooking the lagoon – filled with megayachts – sounds like the perfect escape.
Could you sum up what’s happening at your resort’s new Marina Village development? What will it look like once completed?
We are currently in the process of finalizing high-end retail stores, art galleries and jewellers for the area. There will also be some shops more specifically targeted at the yachting industry, like provisioning and chandlery. In addition, we are also developing numerous food and beverage concepts for the village.
The Marina Village is also getting a new art gallery – how important is it to support the work of local talent in Saint Lucia?
It is very important for us to show our support for local artisans, which is why we are featuring art galleries in the Marina Village. One of the biggest talents emerging from the local population is Mr. Eudovic, a talented wood sculptor.
What do you think is key to Saint Lucia’s popularity as a luxury travel destination?
The wonderful climate and nature, combined with its warm local people and easy access to reliable and frequent air lift.
What is your ultimate packing tip for people traveling to Saint Lucia?
Don’t forget your camera and comfortable Caribbean clothing. Pack your appetite as well, as Saint Lucia is a great foodie destination.
What is your ultimate ‘must-do’ activity?
The Sulphur Springs in Soufriere is the world’s only drive in volcano. A couple of hundred yards downstream for the springs, the water temperature is still hot but cool enough for tourists to enter and give themselves a mudbath. Combine this with a beautiful sail charter to view the Pitons and this activity will be one you never forget.
