Renowned for its pop-ups in beautiful places, Zuma is now putting down roots in paradise, with a new permanent residence at Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi. As the first permanent restaurant in the Indian Ocean, it also becomes the 10th addition to the hotel’s F&B roster, bringing its world-famous contemporary Japanese cuisine to an even wider international audience.
Founded in London in 2002 by creator and co-founder Rainer Becker, Zuma is inspired by the traditional Japanese izakaya – an informal bar that serves drinks and snacks designed for sharing. For its Indian Ocean outpost, Zuma draws inspiration from its serene surrounds, complementing the beauty with natural materials and local design techniques, with a dramatic entrance, island bar, robata and sushi counter, and, of course, panoramic views of the ocean beyond.
Fans of the restaurant can happily indulge in Zuma favourites, such as seabass with yuzu, truffle oil and salmon roe, spicy beef tenderloin with sesame, red chilli and sweet soy, and Dynamite spider roll with soft-shell crab and tobiko sauce. When you’re ready to roll home, check into a Grand Overwater Villa to digest in decadence.
