As the catwalk heats up at the Mercedes-Benz Berlin Fashion Week, showcasing the latest and greatest creations from the world’s foremost fashion designers, we have compiled our own list of must-have suits – for the modern gentleman who likes to travel.
5. CHARLES TYRWHITT’S HERRINGBONE ITALIAN SUIT
We kick off our list with a classic suit from London-based tailor Charles Tyrwhitt, whose flagship Jermyn Street store has quickly forged a reputation as one of England’s foremost formal fashion houses, enticing the city’s well-to-do clientele with a broad range of exceptional menswear.
Featuring a two-button single-breasted jacket with natural corozo buttons, the Herringbone Italian Suit is built from high twist yarn woven in Italy, designed to stop unwanted wrinkles and to maximise wearability on your travels.
4. PAUL SMITH’S INDIGO BYARD TRAVEL SUIT
Menswear icon Paul Smith has been a trusted figure in the fashion industry for close to fifty years, creating beautifully tailored suits for celebrities and royalty alike. Today, his brand is synonymous with rebellious rock stars and sharply dressed sports personalities, whose frequent travels have shaped the design of his Indigo Byard Travel Suit.
This traditionally tailored two-piece garment runs narrow through the chest to a stylishly tapered trouser leg, while the jacket’s internal jetted pockets are perfect for storing your passport and travel documents. A slim notched lapel lends the suit a modern look, while its resilient materials and expert craftsmanship ensure long haul comfort.

3. BURBERRY’S CREASE-FREE SUIT
Since the company was established in 1856, Burberry has grown to become one of the world’s most recognisable luxury fashion brands. With their extensive portfolio ranging from the inception of the trench coat in 1914 to the signing of Emma Watson as the face of the brand in 2010, there is no retailer better placed to meet the demanding needs of today’s jet setting clientele.
Late last year, the fashion house launched its tailored travel range for men, which included a crease-free suit made using a combination of lightweight, flexible fabrics and modern canvassing. On this distress-free suit, Burberry even adopted an innovative Italian memory fabric, created from specially woven merino wool, to keep creases to a minimum. Perfect for hopping on and off the private jet.

2. KITON’S K-50 BESPOKE SUIT WITH TRAVEL BAG
With less than fifty bespoke Kiton K-50 suits tailored each year, the privilege of ownership is reserved only for this Italian outfitter’s most loyal and affluent customers. Each suit is painstakingly created at the hand of master tailor Enzo D’Oris over a 50 hour period, using a material blend of cashmere, Egyptian cotton and silk.
The final product is widely considered the best suit in the world, with one critic telling CNN: “[the K-50] follows the lines of the body so closely, and yet sits so lightly, that it seems to be poured on.” Unsurprisingly, great craftsmanship comes with a price tag to match. At US $50,000 per suit, you’ll need a travel bag of equal quality to carry your K-50. Luckily, Kiton produce those too.

1. GARRISON BESPOKE’S BULLETPROOF SUIT
No outfit has ever screamed ‘James Bond’ quite like Garrison Bespoke’s Bulletproof Suit. Designed for business travellers working in the finance, oil and mining industries – who often find themselves conducting deals in far-flung destinations – the custom-made suit uses bulletproof nanotube sheets, which fit neatly into the jacket’s lining.
The three-piece suit can absorb anything from handgun shots to knife punctures and can be bought from the Toronto-based tailor for around US $20,000, depending on customisation options.
