Ornate, multi-tiered temples, a plethora of golden beaches from where to soak up the seemingly endless sunshine and a vibrant food and nightlife scene; it is easy to see why Phuket attracts millions of travellers every year to sample the never-ending array of cultural, culinary and natural delights. However, those searching for the antidote to the thronging crowds should follow their compass to the ultra-serene, boutique resort of Kata Rocks by Infinite Luxury.
Carved out of the rock on a pristine piece of Phuket hillside real estate, the minimalist property is home to 34 beautifully appointed pool villas that serve up views of the crystal-clear waters of the Andaman Sea. Those hanging their hats for the evening can expect an abode showcasing Italian-inspired designs, large terraces and a private pool. However, our visit to the hotel is fleeting as we indulge in the offerings of the Kata Rocks Day Pass.
Emblematic of the property’s exclusive nature, it’s a discreet turn off the main road – blink and you’ll miss it like us. After winding along this ‘secret’ route, we come to the white-washed walls of the property, where upon arrival, a buggy whisks us away to a very chic swimming pool. There’s plenty of places for us to bed in for a day of relaxation and Thai sunshine but before we claim our submerged, white sun loungers, we just have to drink in that view; azure waters that stretch out towards the horizon, punctuated by the white bows and sails of bobbing yachts including the property’s own luxury vessel that can be chartered for a private event or a dreamy sunset cruise.
Settled in, we take advantage of the day pass’s enticing amenities that sees guests enjoy THB 3,500 ($103) worth of credit to spend on a spa treatment at the Infinite Luxury Spa, and food and beverage at the Kata Rocks Clubhouse, alongside a 15 per cent discount at the restaurant whenever 5pm rolls around. The menu features a selection of local and international tastes with the blue crab salad, whole grilled Phuket lobster, tournedos Rossini and Kata Rocks cheeseburger catching the eye. Naturally, the drinks offering is just as impressive with a whole gamut of in-house signature cocktails on display like the Kata Rocks Secret, Lip’s On Fire and Copper Rose joined by classic mixed drinks, Champagne and wine. You can choose to dine poolside or in the shade of Kata Rocks Clubhouse’s restaurant or bar.
For little ones, the adjacent reception is home to a series of games including a pool table as well as some seriously cool elephant artworks, adorned in Kata Rocks couture and sunglasses. And when the clock strikes five o’clock, secure your place on one of the outside sofas to take in arguably the best views of the sunset on the island. The perfect way to conclude a chill day in Phuket.
