Ras Al Khaimah made headlines earlier this year when it reinforced its commitment to becoming a global leader in sustainable tourism with a $130 million investment in 20 new tourism projects spanning the emirate’s spectacular mountains, beaches and deserts. New projects include desert campsites and hiking trails, as well as eco-golf and a scallop-diving ranch, but well-heeled travellers will be reassured to know that the luxury hotel sector hasn’t been forgotten.

The latest new addition to Ras Al Khaimah’s luxury portfolio pipeline is Sofitel Al Hamra Beach Resort, a contemporary resort with 300 rooms, suites and villas overlooking the waters of the Arabian Gulf, marking the brand’s debut in the Northern Emirates. Due to open in 2023, the property will form part of the Al Hamra integrated resort destination, complete with an 18-hole Championship golf course, a marina and yacht club, shopping mall and international conference and exhibition centre.

Meanwhile, InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa is set to open imminently on Al Hayat Island, the first of a collection of developments that will transform the island into one of the emirate’s premier luxury destinations. Anantara Mina Al Arab will follow in late 2022, with 147-rooms, suites and overwater villas overlooking the ocean and tidal wetlands, while a marina, shops, dining outlets and a collection of high-end residences and villas will complete the offering.
