Kenyan designer Anna Trzebinski’s latest project, Jannah Lamu is now open. Peace and simplicity are at the core of this ‘constellation hotel’ which incorporates a number of buildings scattered around the old village square of Lamu Town with a series of shared outdoor areas and four lovingly restored traditional wooden dhows. Currently two main buildings with seven rooms and three communal spaces merge culture, art and nature with life on the water, immersing guests into an authentic Lamu Archipelago lifestyle experience.

The village-style dwellings are decorated in a contemporary Swahili-chic style, with Trzebinski’s signature layering of textiles and colours. The first property, named after the first star in the Southern Cross constellation, Alpha Crusis, features four independent suites with en-suite bathrooms, a living area and a private kitchenette. From the panoramic rooftop, guests can enjoy undisturbed views of Shela, Lamu Town and neighbouring Manda Island, channels stretching far into the mainland and the islands of the Lamu Archipelago.

Beta Crusis, the second building, features one suite and two rooms on the first floor and a second-floor rooftop with a communal dining area where guests are served breakfast as well as a separate lounging area to relax. Amongst the buildings, a ‘contemplative scented garden’ has been created to embrace the energy of a traditional fragrant garden typical of many Arab-influenced cultures. Located on the ground floor of Alpha Crusis, a boutique and lifestyle store showcases a fusion of traditional Kenyan heritage and global influences.
