Everyone loves a new hotel opening, especially when Waldorf Astoria is involved, and Doha is one of the latest recipients of the brand’s five-star magic. The 44-storey Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay has bagged one of the best locations in the Qatari capital’s Diplomatic area, with easy access to the city’s key attractions.
With a distinct Art Deco design playing out across 283 rooms and suites, as well as 50 luxury apartments, the hotel offers urban respite in the most elegant of surrounds. Stand-out elements include the striking clock in the lobby created by Tiffany & Co., the design of which celebrates the falcon - Qatar’s national bird - and the stunning Waldorf Astoria Spa which stretches from 39th to the 43rd floor.
A truly hidden oasis dedicated to wellness, it features salt inhalation relaxation, hammam, hydrotherapy pools, thermal experiences, an Arabian Sea and Sand Ritual, Bikram yoga and meditation studios. The beating heart of the spa is its incredible 26-metre marble-tiled indoor pool which is paved in glass mosaic tile by Sicis, and features a seven-tier stepped architectural ceiling. Another jewel in the hotel’s crown is its elevated dining scene that brings a New York state of mind to Doha’s culinary landscape.
Each of the five venues offer something unique to the city. There is, of course, Peacock Alley, which reflects the history of the original Waldorf Astoria in New York, and is synonymous with elegant afternoon teas. Ledoux raises the bar for patisserie perfection, inspired by the very best of Paris’ cake and confectionary scene. For a true taste of Arabia, the menu at Al Fayrouz Terrace takes you on a journey along the Silk Road with Levantine cuisine and shisha.
Tribeca Market is a food emporium that serves classic American dishes straight from the sidewalks of New York, all set against a backdrop of gold, black marble and mirrors. As for late-night sips, The Cortland Bar is a quintessential New York-inspired mixology bar ushering in a new era of drinking Doha with artisanal spirits and timeless cocktails.
Two new restaurants will be added to Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay’s roster this spring, with the opening of MURU, which will be helmed by Michelin-starred, Italian-Argentine chef Mauro Colagreco, and YUN, which will take guests back to the original tea houses and luxury dining rooms of 1930s Hong Kong, with a menu of modern Cantonese and Taishanese cuisine.
