Where once a spa session during a holiday was seen as an indulgence, today entire holidays are planned around wellness. Such has been the boom in wellness tourism that SHA Wellness Clinic, a pioneer in the field, is now at the forefront of creating the world’s first healthy living island. Partnering with Abu Dhabi-based development partner IMKAN, SHA Emirates Island, with health and wellbeing at its core, will be located in Al Jurf, halfway between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The private island, accessible only to guests and residents, will comprise 86 beachfront villas, 49 apartments and two penthouses where residents can enjoy SHA method’s renowned health programmes and onsite amenities. Each villa, in line with an eco-conscious philosophy, will blend natural and sustainable elements such as locally sourced stone, sustainably harvested wood, eco-friendly paints, energy-efficient appliances, solar-powered heating and electricity to create a serene villa ambience. A team of international and local architects and designers, including NMDC, SAOTA, HBA, SIEC, and OTAK are collaborating on the project.

Owners will have world-class services on their doorstep, including expert professionals, renowned doctors, therapists, personal trainers, yoga and meditation instructors, and healthy-cooking chefs, available around the clock. Several pavilions will be placed across the island such as the ‘Sports Pavillion’, a facility for fitness enthusiasts and athletes, and the ‘Marine Pavillion’, offering water sports and sea activities, alongside the medical and holistic treatment centres.
