There is arguably no greater sight in New York City than that of Central Park. It’s one of the most coveted views in the Big Apple, and the sight from the Viceroy New York’s aptly-named Viceroy Park Suite does not disappoint.
Nestled snugly in-between Le Méridien and a residential tower, and just a stone’s throw from Carnegie Hall on 57th street, the hotel’s black metal and glass frame rises a dizzying 29 floors. Despite its height, it’s a slim building, which has resulted in smaller rooms. The Park Suite, located on the 26th floor, is a bit of a squeeze at 46.4 sqm – but still, spacious by New York City standards.
Combining wood furniture with leather and metal accents, the suite is decorated with modernity and sophistication in mind, and emits a sense of serenity despite the hustle and bustle taking place down below. There is a living room with a small desk, while the dining area with high chairs makes the ideal perch to drink a morning coffee and gaze at the magnificent view. A leather sofa can also comfortably be converted into a bed if you have more than one guest accompanying you on your travels.
Behind the wooden sliding doors, the bedroom features a king-size bed adorned with custom-made Sferra linens, providing a thoroughly comfortable night’s sleep. The adjoining bathroom, covered floor to ceiling in grey marble, is a step into the art deco magnificence of New York’s past. Marble adds glamour and a sense of luxury with the gold fixtures but the lack of a bath is disappointing – how can one truly relax without a bath? The full-size Neil George amenities, however, make up for the oversight.
Both rooms have Samsung Smart televisions, a Beats by Dr. DreTM Beatbox PortableTM Sound System and there’s a smartphone in the bedroom, which acts a little like a digital butler, providing access to the concierge and information about the city, the hotel and nearby attractions.
As the city that never sleeps, New York City offers much in the way of nightlife. A short distance from Times Square and the world-famous restaurants of Midtown, there is plenty to keep you occupied. For those unwilling to venture too far, Viceroy’s The Roof bar is a popular option for guests and locals. The two lifts in the hotels are never without smartly dressed New Yorkers heading to the 29th floor to enjoy the stunning views and buzzing atmosphere of the bar, and it’s proving to be one of the hippest spots in the city.
Though The Roof is just a few floors above the suite and open until 4am, there is no noise pollution trickling down to the room, which means you can wake refreshed for another day in New York – and another day of Central Park views.
