Art Basel Miami captures the imaginations of locals and visitors alike each December, when a world class collection of international galleries showcase the world’s finest contemporary artists at venues across the city. Coinciding with the launch of this year’s event, EAST Hotels is launching its new brand-wide art programme at EAST, Miami, with a bespoke installation created by American artist Carlos Betancourt.

On the Edge: The Hopeful Forest, takes inspiration from the city of Miami with a series of sculptural artworks made from repurposed, abandoned objects. The precarious looking stacks of objects represent the towering buildings of Miami’s Brickell neighbourhood, where the hotel is located, and the collected memories of its residents, inviting viewers to contemplate what it means to live in an urban environment.

On display at the hotel until January 14, 2020, the installation is the first collaboration between EAST and a local artist and the inaugural project of the ‘Art at EAST: Urban Remix’ art programme. The initiative will be launched across the brand’s other hotels in Hong Kong and Beijing later this year, with specially commissioned works addressing the concept of urban living created by local artists in both cities.
