In partnership with the Tuscan-born international contemporary art gallery, Galleria Continua, Belmond has launched MITICO. This collaboration embodies a new art philosophy, nurturing a sense of inclusivity and community. Four prominent international artists have reinterpreted universal customs such as cooking, painting, observing, and appreciating through art de vivre across some of Belmond’s landmark properties in Italy.


At the Casanova Gardens of the Cipriani, Venice, Indian artist Subodh Gupta’s installation Cooking The World is a large house fashioned from pots, pans and utensils discarded by their previous users, bearing witness to individual histories and stories of past utility. At The Villa San Michele, Florence, Argentinian artist Leandro Erlich pays homage to the hotel’s exceptional location with Viewing the World, with his Window & Ladder putting perception at the forefront and challenging the viewers’ concept of reality. At Castello di Casole, Tuscany, Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Loving the World consists of four bronze sculptures emphasising the importance of humankind’s impact on nature and the need to protect it. In the mountains of Taormina at Grand Hotel Timeo is Colouring the World Cameroonian artist Pascale Marthine Tayou’s installation retraces the path of happiness along a walkway dotted with four crystal sculptures embodying the process of creolisation – the mixing of different peoples and cultures. The installations are on display until mid-November.
