Venice’s Hotel Gabrielli looks set for a new lease of life after a complete renovation of its site was announced by Starhotels.
Located on Riva degli Schiavoni, the hotel, its 13th-century palazzo, and its six surrounding buildings will see a complete refresh while maintaining its Venetian heritage.
Scheduled to reopen its doors at the beginning of 2025, Hotel Gabrielli which first opened in 1856, will see the number of keys reduced from 120 to 73 to allow for more living space in rooms that will all be uniquely designed.
For those who like to plump for The Presidential Suite, the exciting news is that it will be one of the biggest on the island once work is complete with a private altana and a classic panoramic terrace making it an extraordinary light-house apartment overlooking the roofs of Venice and the lagoon.

Other major changes will see facelifts for many of the original features of the hotel including the Quadrifora windows on the main façade, ancient courtyard columns, marble bathrooms, and Istrian stone pavements.
Interiors will be imagined by Milanese designer Andrea Auletta. Think shades of warm grey found against ivory, white, and golds that represent the sea and sky. Local artisans will also add their own touch with Original Murano chandeliers and mirrors, painted wooden beams and luxury marble wall coverings, highlighting the authentic craftsmanship of the Venetian Serenissima.
When the stomach starts to murmur, gourmands will head to the ground floor for Mediterranean dishes before enjoying a nightcap or a night-starting cocktail at the Sky Bar on the roof terrace that surrenders views of San Giorgio.
And for those looking to slow down, they can check into the exclusive treatment room for spa experiences on the noble floor.
