Now you can explore Mama Africa from an aquatic angle with luxury-liner Silversea combining a three-night safari in Kenya or South Africa as part of its new all-inclusive Africa sailings. The Silver Cloud (below) Africa voyages begin sailing from Mombasa in November and also include one night at Fairmont the Norfolk hotel in Nairobi, and two nights at the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club. From Cape Town, the safari includes one night at a deluxe hotel, two nights at a Kruger National Park lodge, and a flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

March 2017 will see yacht-cruise and expedition-specialists Ponant journey to Africa for the first time, also looking to add some fauna to the mix. The “exceptional voyage” aboard Le Lyrial sails from Ushuaia in Argentina and around Cape Horn, Chile, to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa with a post-cruise programme in the Kruger National Park for guests to seek out the Big Five. A smaller sailing from Cape Town to Durban also debuts the same month.

And for an even more casual saunter, The Oberoi Group has launched a new ultra-luxe Nile cruiser, The Oberoi Philae (below). The spacious vessel has 22 cabins, each with French doors for unobstructed views of the Nile’s ever-changing scenery. The ship will cruise between Aswan and Luxor offering four- and six-night itineraries, on-board Egyptologists and the same luxury and standard of service you would find in a five-star Oberoi hotel.
