The 200-storey skyscraper is now under construction in Jeddah on the coast of the Red Sea and is expected to cost around US $1.2 billion as part of Saudi Arabia's US $20 billion 'Kingdom City' project

Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Kingdom Tower will boast a total construction area of over 5.7 million square feet and will include a Four Seasons Hotel, luxury apartments and condominiums

Despite being scaled down from its original 'mile-high' proposal (approx. 5,280 feet), it is estimated that the massive construction project will require around 80,000 tons of steel and will be built in three phases

The world's highest observation deck will be located on a 98-square-foot terrace jutting precariously from the 157th floor of the building, offering incredible views across the Red Sea and Jeddah's cityscape

Rising high above the clouds, the peak of Kingdom Tower will mark the narrowest point of the building. It's sloped exterior has been specifically designed to reduce intense wind loads, which increase with height

''Our vision for Kingdom Tower is one that represents the new spirit of Saudi Arabia,'' said Adrian Smith, co-designer of the tower. ''[It] symbolizes the Kingdom as an important global business and cultural leader.''
