With a price tag of GBP 8,888 (US $14,437), The Gigi’s cocktail has become the world’s most expensive aperitif, knocking the modestly priced $12,970 The Winston from the coveted top spot.
Created for actress Grace Jones at the star-studded opening of Gigi’s restaurant, in the affluent district of Mayfair, London, the cocktail is made from a luxurious mix of 1990 Vintage Cristal and an extremely rare 1888 Samalens Vieille Relique Vintage Bas Armagnac brandy, topped with Angostura Bitters and “lashings” of gold leaf.
According to The Telegraph, restaurant manager Cesare Papagna said he wanted to give the iconic 007 actress something “truly special” to mark the occasion.
The pricey champagne concoction now tops the list of the world’s most expensive cocktails, which was formerly dominated by The Winston, an aperitif dreamt up by Melbourne’s luxurious Club 23 – priced at $12,970.
