For nearly seven decades, the Captain Cook timepiece has styled the look of those in search of adventure. Unveiled in 1962 as the watch for doctors, engineers, athletes, deep sea divers and racing car drivers, the model was the first timepiece of the series to showcase Rado’s famous pivoting anchor under the 12 o’clock mark.
Charting a new course for the collection is Rado’s Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton timepiece. Marrying rugged glamour with sporty comfort, the series’ latest model sees the introduction of a stainless-steel bezel and crown that is finished in a warm PVD rose-gold shade. The bezel is further enhanced by a laser-etched, anti-fingerprint, high-tech ceramic, matt black insert that displays markers and numerals in rose-gold, for a lovely contrast against the darker ceramic elements. As in all Captain Cook models, the visual composition is rhythmic and virile, underscored by generous geometric markers, numerals, hand and indices which are treated with black Super-LumiNova for superb readability in low-lighting.
Enjoying a box-shaped sapphire crystal, the timepiece comes with a softly smoke-tinted, skeletonised dial, adding another dimension to the look. Equipped with an antimagnetic and highly reliable Nivachron hairspring that provides 80 hours of power reserve, the open design offers an unobstructed view of the 25-jewel R808 automatic calibre and Côtes-de-Genève decoration. Completing the look is a nod to the original 1962 model, a PVD-coated moving anchor symbol, placed upon a ruby backplate.
One of the most notable aspects of the timepiece is the sheer comfort and flexibility it offers to its wearer, thanks to the high-tech ceramic. Durable, beautifully light and incredibly scratch-resistant, the high-tech ceramic feels silky against the skin, with the comfort extending from the case into a gorgeous three-row bracelet and its titanium three-fold clasp, with the opposing ceramic push-buttons allowing for secure and easy-to-handle fastening. These high-quality components alongside a screw-down crown and precision assembly also enable the timepiece to be water resistant up to a depth of 300 metres.
Leading a rugged existence full of adventure never meant that it should be done without style. Continue your exciting journeys with Rado’s eye-catching Captain Cook High-Tech Ceramic Skeleton timepiece.
